How to get your employees excited about elearning

The eLearning industry shows no signs of slowing down, and has only become more widely adopted for corporate training in recent years. But while organisations are showing enthusiasm in elearning, this does not necessarily mean that employees will feel the same way.

Why is it important to get employees excited?

Most of our mental activities involve both cognition and emotions. When you are feeling positive and excited during the learning process, it can make it more engaging and embedded in our long term memory. If the employees are going through the elearning with an apathetic approach, it would not likely have much, if any, long lasting impact.

So, here are some of the things that you can do to turn that negative emotion around and get your employees motivated to learn.

1. Give Them Time To Learn
When employees are constantly swamped with work, learning becomes low priority. It is important that when you build expectations for them to complete the course, that you also work with them to manage the time investment.

2. Explain How It Will Benefit Them
Employees aren’t going to be excited about learning something that they think they will never end up using. Explain how the learning is relevant to their job scope and goals, and give them real life examples of how others have benefitted.

3. Make It Accessible
Having a course accessible through personal devices eliminates the inconveniences of in-person training, such as having to attend it at a specific time. And, mobile learning allows learners to pick up the course when they feel ready and open to experience.

4. Have a ‘Growth Mindset’ Company Culture
The company culture also plays a large part in how accepted elearning is. If top management prioritises learning and shows how much they care about their employee’s personal growth and empowerment, this will have a ripple effect through the rest of the organisation.

5. Reward Completed Training
Give recognition to those who have completed training by giving them small tokens, such as a certificate or a gift card. You can also add a level of fun competitiveness by creating a leaderboard of who had taken the most courses, and rewarding the winner.
